brain sprinkles

Thursday was test day.  Writing test day.  We were given a prompt and each student had to write and draw about the prompt.  Before I gave the student their prompt I reminded each student of how smart they were and how I knew they were going to do great on their test!  After their pep talk I gave each student some brain sprinkles!
They had to close their eyes as I sprinkled their brain and tell themselves how smart they were!

After a little while of working and I noticed the students were finished I let the students know they had a few more minutes to work.
One student started to cry so I quickly walked over to him and asked him what was wrong.  He told me that he didn't have his sentence yet.  I encouraged him and suggested some more brain sprinkles.  He said in a very pouty voice, "no, because those things don't even work!"
I told him that they do actually work but maybe he just needed a little more.  I gave him some more and made sure to rub them in this time!!!!

I plan to use the brain sprinkles more because by the end of the day I had a student come up to me and say, "Ms. Brown, I think those sprinkles are growing in my brain."

back to it!

I was excited about going back to see my kinders this morning.
We only have about 6 weeks left together and I want to make every day count!  I have treasured this year so much and I plan to treasure our last 6 weeks together even more.  These kinders have captured my heart.

Today was great.
Each child made my heart proud!
They were such busy little students and worked so hard!

I loved watching them come in and smile and catch up with their friends.
We had lots of eventful things happen over break!  We had 2 girls come in with both of their front teeth missing.  One got her ears pierced.  One turned 6.
I am telling you BIG things!!!

I received lots of hugs and I didn't mind it one little bit!  I had missed them so much.

During share time I let each child say one thing they did over Spring Break.  My favorite, "I was just lazy."  My kind of Spring Break!

Easter

It's not about the bunnies and chocolate!
It's about Jesus dying on the cross for my sins.  For your sins!

Happy Easter!
Christ is RISEN!!!

sb '11

Spring Break 2011 has been great!  It has been a quiet week.  I have really enjoyed hanging around my little town.
I enjoyed babysitting my "niece!"  She is just the cutest thing EVER!!!  She loves her Aunt La La!

I enjoyed 2 nights of slumber parties with some girls from my bible study!  I loved being silly with them and having much needed girl time!

I shopped and found some super cute spring things!

I cleaned my room and replaced all my winter clothes with my spring and summer stuff.  I love getting out all my summer stuff because I always forget what I have!

I got and HIGHLY enjoyed a pedicure!  I am loving the color I picked too!!!  I must buy some ASAP!
I also enjoyed catching up on some movies and TV shows.

I had good intentions of working on school stuff, but I found too many other things to take up my time doing!  I have done a little bit, but I got sad when I realized that I only have 33 more school days with them.

This week was much needed, but I have really missed my kinders!  They have been on my mind a lot.  I have been wondering what they have been up to for the past 6 days.  I hope they have enjoyed their time off and ready to come back and learn, learn, learn!

.....and last of all I picked up our local newspaper to see my debut!

book character day!

Friday was a blast!  Each student was so excited to come in wearing their costume and checking out their friends costumes too.  They were in awe of my costume!
My fear was that I would have some students come in that morning and not have a costume or not have a book.  I really discussed it with my students about what they were going to wear and that they needed to have a book about who they were dressed up as.  Like any great teacher I was glad I was prepared because I had 2 students come in that morning without a costume or a book!  I had gotten some simple things together which I am SO glad I did!
I was Cowgirl Kate from the book Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa by Erica Silverman (who also wrote one of my most favorite books Big Pumpkin)!
My assistant was the Old Lady from the book There Was A Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick.

Some other that showed up in our class were...Little Red Riding Hood, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Pinkalicious, Tinkerbell, Soccer Player, Junie B. Jones, Firefighter, Splat the Cat, and Justin Bieber!
The students in the other Kindergarten classes dressed up as ducks from the book Make Way for Ducklings!
We came into the gym and paraded around for all the other grades and then sat down to enjoy seeing the other grades parade around to show off their costumes.  There was also a parade for the teachers and parents who dressed up.
Two local newspapers were there snapping pictures!
After the parade we broke it down to Gotta Keep Reading!  Our chorus teacher did a great job leading and teaching the school the dance!

What a great day to encourage reading and get our students excited about books!
Now I must start planning my costume for next year!

gotta keep reading!

Happy last week of school before Spring Break!  I am so super excited about a week off!  I do not have too much planned but I am excited about having some time off and enjoying some time to myself.
Every year my school has a "Book Character Day."  Since my Aunt worked at the same school a couple of years ago I had heard about this special day and so I knew how this day was such a big deal to our school!  I have been reminding my students about it for over a month and we have been deciding what each student can come dressed as!
Our Book Character day is on Friday.  I am getting so excited about it.
Our music teacher has also been planning something special with the whole school.  If you have not heard or watched this song and mob dance you must check it out!

The students have been practicing in music and in our class almost every day!  We are so pumped about being able to dance in our costumes with our favorite books on Friday.

Gotta Keep Readin’
Cause this book’s gonna be a good good book
