To the North Pole, of course! This is the Polar Express!
Monday was Polar Express day. We had been planning this and I had been pretty excited about this for a month! The two Kindergarten newbies decided we would decorate our building for the special day! We met Sunday and spent 4 hours making it magical!!!
We took portable metal cabinets that each teacher has for storage and covered with paper to make a train. We used black electrical tape to make train tracks. Hung white lights from the ceiling. Made a Polar Express banner. Put up a Christmas tree and of course hung a white sheet with colored lights around to watch the movie on! We couldn't wait for the kids to come on Monday.
I thought one of the best things about the day was being able to wear my pj's! It was great being so comfy!
I stood by my door as the bell rang and waited to see the children's reactions! They were priceless! One student was walking to his room and then turned around and looked again and exclaimed "COOL!" The students had such a hard time staying in their classroom and getting their morning work done! They were so interested in seeing all the decorations.
We had told the students that the elves were coming to decorate. They LOVED the decorations so much. They wanted to get in the train so bad! They thought we were really getting on a train.
I passed out golden Polar Express tickets to each student. Once we heard the train whistle we quickly lined up, but before we could join the other classes I took their tickets up because of course they had to be punched!
We all piled up in our pj's with our stuffed animals in the pit and enjoyed the movie. They were so quiet and seemed to really enjoy the movie! The movie lasted till lunch. Once we came back we did some activities with trains and then a parent brought holiday Krispy Kreme doughnuts and water! It was such a special treat!
The whole day they asked when we were going to get on the train. It was a little sad to tell them we had to use our imagination! I wish we could have really gotten on a train! It was a great day and I really can't wait to do it again next year!
